Cats & Heart Disease

All breeds of cat can be affected by heart disease and the most common heart condition seen in cats is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). HCM is an acquired disease in cats, though there is an hereditary component, and in Maine Coon cats we can carry out DNA screening tests for this. Though please note that results from these tests do not 100% guarantee that a cat will not go on to develop HCM. We are happy to see any cat for HCM screening and if you would like any information please contact us.
